Known in California as intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF/IID), intermediate care facilities for the intellectually disabled – habilitative (ICF/IID-H) and intermediate care facilities for the intellectually disabled – nursing (ICF/IID-N), these facilities are recognized at the federal level as intermediate care facilities for the intellectually disabled (ICF/ID).

CAHF members are providers of four to 15-bed community-based homes called intermediate care facilities (ICF) that are licensed by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
There are approximately 1,100 facilities statewide with 13 large ICF/DD facilities, 677 ICF/DD-H (Habilitation) facilities and 405 ICF/DD-N (Nursing) facilities CAHF represents 428 member-facilities and agency-providers of ICF/IID services.
