Developmental Services

The California Association of Health Facilities’ (CAHF) Developmental Services is committed to empowering healthcare professionals who serve individuals with developmental disabilities. We provide leadership, advocacy, and robust educational resources tailored specifically for those working within intermediate care facilities.

Legal

At CAHF, our legal program serves as a critical resource for post-acute and long term care providers navigating complex state and federal laws. We help members understand the laws and regulations shaping the post-acute and long term care legal landscape and, through CAHF, seek to influence that landscape within all of the relevant judicial, legislative and regulatory arenas.

CAHF Special Programs

Regulatory

CAHF actively engages in regulatory advocacy to influence the development and implementation of regulations that will impact our members. Through direct interaction with regulatory agencies, we work to ensure policies are fair, effective, and aligned with the interests of those we represent.

Legislation

Legislative advocacy is one of the primary benefits of CAHF membership and one of the most important activities in which we engage on behalf of long-term care facilities in the state.

Reimbursement

CAHF is committed to provide our nursing facility and intermediate care facilities for the development disabled members with the latest information on Medi-Cal, managed care, and Medicare reimbursement issues. Information that may be found in this section includes Managed Care/CalAIM, PDPM, LTC Code Conversion, WQIP Corner, Workforce Standards Program, and WQIP Payment Timelines.

CAHF-DPP has collected materials and best practices from around the United States for the last ten years, and adapted many tools to fit the needs of LTC providers. Nurses Council

The California Association of Health Facilities’ (CAHF) Nurses Council promotes the profession of nursing in the long-term care setting and in the health care continuum; represents the nursing profession before governmental agencies and the public; enhances educational programs for all levels of nursing; and seeks to encourage, motivate and retain nursing professionals in the health care setting.

Music and Memory

Designed to improve the lives of residents in skilled nursing facilities who suffer from Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders, the CAHF Music & Memory Project provided personalized music to 4,500 skilled nursing residents in 300 participating facilities during a three year period.

Volunteer Engagement Project

The CAHF Volunteer Engagement Project provided a framework for facilities to engage their communities and create a successful and ongoing volunteer program. Initially, the two and a half year program started an intensive pilot volunteer program in 20 skilled nursing facilities. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the program to pivot to create a hybrid template which incorporated virtual volunteer strategies along with a traditional volunteer program roadmap.
