Planning for Extreme Weather

Review the documents below for some excellent thoughts and policy suggestions on planning for different types of extreme weather. Also review the Vulnerable Populations section of this website and the Planning for Evacuation section for additional information and for some of the documents referenced in the resources below.

Remember to keep the temperature in your facility at a safe and comfortable level. Hot and cold weather can cause the temperature inside to fluctuate, so be aware of weather forecasts for extreme weather and monitor the temperature inside your facility. The elderly and other health-compromised individuals are highly susceptible to extremes in temperature and dehydration, so it is critical to monitor their temperatures and hydration levels during times of extreme weather.
