CAHF's Evacuation Planning Tools
Positive Practice: Sample County-Wide Long Term Care Evacuation Plan
San Joaquin County EMS Agency, with a group of dedicated long term care providers and other planning partners such as fire and law, have diligently revised their Long Term Care Evacuation Plan. This county-wide plan is a high quality positive practice that takes a multi-disciplinary approach to 1. emergent evacuation, 2. slower onset evacuation, 3. single-facility evacuation, and 4. widespread/multi-facility evacuation. This plan was distributed to all long term care providers in the county Jan-Feb. 2008, and the contents of the CD, including the plan and many helpful tools, are included below. Local planners and long term care should review this information. Positive Practice: County Mutual Aid Agreement/Memorandum of Understanding for LTC Facilities
Stanislaus County has been working with long term care providers to develop Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) that are used voluntarily at the time of an emergency to facilitate the transfer of residents between their home facility and a new facility if evacuation becomes necessary. This type of mutual assistance smoothes out many evacuation issues, particularly when MOUs are developed between several facilities. Planners and providers should review this work as well.
