Each county has a Long Term Care Ombudsman program, whose goal is to advocate for the rights of all residents of long-term care facilities and adult day health-care centers in the state. The primary responsibility of the program is to investigate and attempt to resolve complaints made by, or on behalf of, individual residents in long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen are also available to the family members or friends of the resident, interested members of community groups, senior citizen groups and consumer advocacy groups and staff, administrators and operators of long-term care facilities. The Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman administers the program through 35 local programs contracted through the 33 Area Agencies on Aging.
