Mary Baker Memorial Scholarship
On August 13, 2014 the Progress Valley Chapter recognized Amanda Gutierrez as the outstanding scholarship recipient of the Mary Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund. Gutierrez who is employed at Oak Valley Care Center in Oakdale plans to return to school and become a certified hospital/long-term care coder. The $1,000 scholarship will help cover tuition, books and other needed educational resources. Gutierrez was also recognized by State Senator Anthony Cannella for her dedication to the long-term care profession. Mary Baker was a longtime nursing-facility administrator and owner of three convalescent hospitals (Bel-Air Lodge and Elness in Turlock and Ha-Le Aloha in Ceres), and a dedicated contributor to CAHF and the Progress Valley Chapter. Following her death in 2012, the chapter developed the Mary Baker Scholarship Fund to honor her tireless dedication to the long-term care profession.
The 2013 scholarship winners from Progress Valley were Kelly Luce-Cimoli MDS Nurse, Garden City Health Care Center in Modesto, Juliana Serpa, Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital-Merced, and Stevi Harris, Data Entry, from English Oaks Nursing & Rehab Center in Modesto.
